I've covered the wildlife from our first day in the Galapagos on North Seymour Island, but I also wanted to highlight the landscape on its own. The Galapagos are a volcanic island chain, and as such the islands themselves are incredibly stark and beautiful.
In the evening light, the layers of denuded trees had a slightly surreal quality.
The volcanic rock and soil has a very rich color and texture.
As we walked westward while the sun got gradually lower in the sky, the marine layer of clouds and the island's trees made for very nice natural framing.
Birds being birds, they don't alway coöperate with the photographer...at least trees don't fly away.
And, of course, equatorial sunsets are pretty spectacular.
Not a bad spot, eh?
