    In-Universe Lore

Here's the idea behind this design, presented as Star Wars lore.

Introducing the Corellian Engineering Corporation DT-650 Drone Tug unit.

Capable of fully remote piloting or semi-autonomous operation via astromech unit, the DT-650 packs the lifting and pushing power of the larger YT series into a smaller frame, perfect for transferring cargo modules around crowded orbital shipyards and spaceports.

With no need for crew quarters or a hyperdrive, the DT-650's redundant sub-light engines can be operated at full output for extended duty cycles, far beyond the limits required for biological safety. When equipped with a suitable astromech unit, multiple DT drones can be synchronized for massive moving capability, including transferring capital ships to and from orbit during construction or refitting.

    Inspiration

This build is inspired by @ec_henry's YX-950 design. One of the variations he made of that is "The Brute"; a mandible-less version that looks very squat, bulky and, well...brutish. I immediately loved it. It’s a huge ship though - bigger than I really have room to display if I built it at my customary 1:144 scale, and I thought the shape suited itself very well to some kind of cargo drone. It fulfills one of the cardinal rules of Star Wars ship design, that they be based around simple, iconic shapes that can be recognized in silhouette.
